4-Year Update

Despite predictions from many experts that Dimitri had reached his peak, he continues to make remarkable progress. He has given up the occasional glass of beer or wine, remained committed to his anti-inflammatory diet, and consistently follows his rehabilitation exercises. He regularly walks and attends physiotherapy sessions at Sunshine, where he sees me biweekly for treatments focused on his spine and extremities.

Whenever he experiences a fall or injury—which seems to happen about once a month—he comes in for additional physio to support his recovery, maintain function, and manage pain.

This year marked a significant milestone: for the first time, Dimitri was able to walk into and out of the ocean without being knocked over by the waves or needing to crawl out. His walking endurance and ease have both improved noticeably. He also successfully got in and out of a very unstable small boat—an impressive and inspiring feat. He managed to sit upright, unsupported, while the boat was tossed around by ocean waves for the entire 45-minute trip to our destination.

We're both excited to attempt some gentle hikes this summer in Alberta’s great outdoors. There are many stunning spots nearby, like Jasper and Waterton, that Dimitri has yet to explore and that I’m eager to show him.

Soon, we’ll be welcoming a new chapter in our lives as grandparents. I’m confident that we’ll be active, engaged, and fun as we step into this joyful new role.
