2-Year Update
What happened to this update?Life-changing events can have both positive and negative effects on caregivers. At the two-year mark of Dimitri’s recovery, Denise experienced a critical, life-threatening septic kidney infection. After multiple rounds of antibiotics failed, she was admitted to the Infectious Disease Control Centre at Rockyview, where she received outstanding, life-saving care. Her recovery took many months.
Through this difficult journey, Denise gained firsthand knowledge about urinary tract infections—both simple and complex—how they can spread to the kidneys, and how to treat and prevent them through the lens of pelvic floor physiotherapy. This unexpected education became a silver lining, enabling her to help many perimenopausal and menopausal women who face similar challenges. She now shares the wisdom she gained from her team of specialists, fellow pelvic floor physiotherapists, and the extensive reading she’s done on the subject.
The journey was incredibly challenging. Denise had to eliminate many foods from her diet and avoid certain fabrics due to their impact on her condition. The powerful antibiotics that saved her life also severely damaged her gut health, which in turn affected nutrient absorption, disrupted her hormones, and triggered widespread inflammation throughout her body.
However, with diligent care and the unwavering support of her healthcare team, Denise began addressing these autoimmune responses. Remarkably, as her overall health improved, the post-concussion migraines she had suffered from since a highway motor vehicle accident in 2009 began to fade. Today, Denise is feeling the best she has in 15 years and is profoundly grateful for the priceless gift of health.
